DJ Mag Top 100 Results

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

The first Top 100 DJs Poll open to public voting was held in 1997.

Before this, DJmag’s poll was intermittent, and only people in the dance music industry contributed towards a candidate shortlist.

Back in 1997, DJmag.com didn’t exist, so all votes were sent in the post.

Altogether, about 700 people voted in Top 100 DJs poll in 1997.

In 1998 we started accepting votes by email, opening up the poll to many more international voters.

The amount of votes received more than trebbled, and Paul Oakenfold was crowned people’s champion for the first time.

In 1999, there were 31 new entries. Only four women made it into the whole poll.

The 2000 poll was the first time that Dutch superstar DJ Tiësto featured (at number 24).

In 2001, votes came in from 50 countries.

Over 500 DJs were nominated, and the top 25 garnered almost 60% of the vote.

In 2002, the vote was up by 20% on 2001, with 38,481 dance music fans taking part around the world.

Votes came in from 65 countries.

In 2003, there were 61,529 votes, up 50% on 2002’s total.

Votes were received from 120 countries around the world.

There really was no disputing Tiësto’s position in the 2004 poll.

Previously, Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox had both won the award twice, but last year Tiësto took things to a whole new level.

His 25,000 capacity stadium gigs, and his DJ set at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games to a TV audience in excess of 4.5 billion, meant no other DJ could compete.

Last year Tiësto was crowned No.1 for the third year in a row.

Finally the results are in for this year and we have a new king DJ to be crowned. The results for the voting are as follows:

Gallery Updated

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

I have finally updated my gallery page on the site. I decided that through Flickr I would have all the galleries organized so that viewers can comment on different pics.

So far I have added 19 galleries with over 900 photo’s from parties over the past year or so including imags from Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Junkie XL, Rank 1, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules and many many more.

View the gallery of all the photo’s here or click on the Gallery section in the link bar.

Make sure to check out the right-side toolbar as well because as often as I update the Flickr profile, the most recent 10 images will update on this page as well.

Interview with Ferry Corsten

Friday, October 14th, 2005

This past weekend I had the opportunity to assist in interviewing one my favourites in the dance music scene:: Ferry Corsten. Myself and my good friend DJ Ampz of Amplified Radio once again had the pleasure to sit down and chat with Ibiza’s #1 DJ of the summer. This weekend was for The Guvernment’s 9 Year Anniversary Celebration and played host to a number of fantastic DJ’s. I have previously met with Ferry before so meeting with him again was great as he is one of the most down to earth DJ’s I’ve ever spoken with. Here’s what he had to say this time around;

DJ Ampz - So, welcome back to Kool Haus…

Ferry Corsten - Thank you very much!

Ampz - It’s been not too long since you’ve been here last. You played at the Guvernment last time, a friend of mine met you down at WMC (Winter Music Conference) and she asked you, what was one of your favorite places to play and you said Toronto.

Corsten - Definetly!

Pakistan Earthquake

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

Yesterday morning, Pakistan was hit by a earthquake registering 7.6 on the Richter scale. So far, it is thought that as many as 20,000 people might have lost their lives in what is perhaps one of the worst natural disasters in living memory.

CNN writes:

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said 43,000 people were injured in the quake, which struck shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday 60 miles north-northeast of the Pakistani capital. Casualty figures “will certainly go up.”

Two major hospitals were badly damaged, and a massive relief effort was under way, with the government working to set up temporary medical centers and evacuating the injured in helicopters, Aziz said. He appealed to the international community to send heavy-lift helicopters, as well as tents, blankets, medicine and “hundreds of millions of dollars” to help rebuild the infrastructure.

Some of the towns have been flattened, so there’s nothing there,” Aziz said.”

Aid agencies are clear that the crucial time is in the immediate days after such an incident, getting aid and medical support into affected areas. There is a desperate need for help, so please, take the time to visit one of the charities below and help these poor people affected.
